Risk & biology

    • APOE genotype: Helps tailor nutrition (e.g., approach to fats, fasting windows) and prevention intensity.

7 Evidence-Informed Steps You Can Start This Week

  1. Adopt an anti-inflammatory, brain-smart plate

    Think Mediterranean-style or plant-forward: colorful vegetables, clean proteins, olive oil/avocado, nuts/seeds, herbs/spices; minimal sugar and ultra-processed food.

  2. Detox your daily life

    Address potential mold/mycotoxin exposure (water damage, musty odors, visible growth), and reduce chemical burden at home. Choose glass over plastic; never microwave in plastic. Use safer cleaning and personal-care products.

  3. Move—daily

    Exercise raises BDNF, the brain’s “growth factor” for neuroplasticity and repair. Aim for a mix of strength, cardio, and balance work.

  4. Balance your hormones

    Especially for postmenopausal women and men with low testosterone. Appropriately prescribed, bioidentical hormone therapy can support cognition, mood, sleep, and bone.

    Prioritize vitamin D, B vitamins (methylation support as needed), omega-3s, magnesium, and other targeted nutrients based on testing.
